Motorola Solutions Unveils Smarter AI Tools to Revolutionize Police Report Writing and On-the-Go Information Access

CHICAGO, October 16, 2025—Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) has announced an exciting new phase for its public safety AI assistant, Assist, offering a suite of advanced features that significantly enhance the capabilities of law enforcement officers. These innovations are designed to streamline operations, empower officers with real-time intelligence, and improve the accuracy and accountability of police reporting.

Already recognized for its ability to redact voices and faces for privacy protection, translate conversations in real-time, and locate vehicles with simple descriptions, Assist is now taking the next step. The latest feature, Assisted Narrative, aims to revolutionize the way officers document incidents, ensuring faster, more thorough police reports while maintaining the integrity of the officer’s firsthand account.

Enhanced Report Writing: Precision, Speed, and Accountability

For law enforcement professionals, a police report is not just a document—it's a reflection of their observations, decisions, and actions. Assisted Narrative was designed with this in mind. According to Mahesh Saptharishi, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Motorola Solutions, "An officer’s police report is an extension of their word, and documenting a complete, accurate account is paramount to building trust."

This new tool goes beyond the basic task of drafting reports—it actively assists officers in producing detailed, defensible narratives by integrating data from various sources. Officers can dictate their account of an incident, while Assist AI scans up to 10 different data points—such as radio transcripts, body camera footage, and 911 call recordings—to cross-check facts, identify inconsistencies, and highlight critical details. This dynamic approach helps reduce the need for revisions and ensures that reports are ready for court.

Transparency is key. Each report generated by Assisted Narrative includes clear notations detailing which AI suggestions were made and which sources were referenced. Furthermore, an audit log tracks all versions of the report, providing a clear record of modifications. This feature not only supports the accuracy of the report but also reinforces accountability, as officers can digitally sign off on the final version to confirm its truthfulness before submission.

"Through our collaboration with memory and social scientists, we discovered that seeing an AI-generated report or watching a video of an incident could inadvertently alter an officer's memory," Saptharishi shared. "We designed Assisted Narrative to maintain the officer’s perspective as the core, using AI to enhance memory recall, verify details, and expedite the reporting process."

Assisted Narrative is available within Motorola Solutions’ CommandCentral DEMS and CommandCentral Records, enabling seamless integration into daily workflows.

Empowering Officers in the Field with Instant Access to Policies and Intelligence

In another leap forward, Motorola Solutions is integrating Assist Chat with the SVX remote speaker microphone, designed for use with the company’s flagship APX NEXT radio. This AI-powered tool allows officers to verbally ask questions and search for vital information, such as policies and procedures, without needing to divert their attention from their surroundings.

With this new capability, officers can query Assist Chat for everything from agency-specific training requirements to procedures for documenting pursuits or filing grievance reports. This integration helps officers make more informed, data-driven decisions in real-time, making the entire policing process more efficient and responsive.

"By equipping officers with a hands-free, eyes-up interface for accessing critical intelligence, we’re empowering them to stay focused on the task at hand," explained Saptharishi. "Whether it’s reviewing policies or locating key pieces of evidence, Assist Chat on the SVX keeps officers connected to the information they need without breaking their attention from the field."

For public safety agencies, Assist Chat is available in a free starter edition, accessible through the SVX or securely via a web browser. Agencies can sign up to begin using the tool and improve the accessibility of their data and policies.
