Cape Town, South Africa — Hytera Communications is celebrating its 15th anniversary in Africa with an impressive display of mission-critical communication technologies at AfricaCom 2025. This event marked a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing safety, resilience, and connectivity across the continent.

Mark Zheng, Managing Director of Hytera Southern Africa, took the stage at AfricaCom to highlight how this anniversary reflects the company’s continuous support for vital sectors such as public safety, energy, security, transportation, and emergency response. He emphasized the importance of Hytera’s technologies in boosting operational reliability for organizations working in remote, high-risk, and time-sensitive environments, where communication is often a matter of life and death.

Among the star attractions at the event was the P60 Smart PoC Radio, which garnered significant attention due to its boundary-free calling capabilities and multimedia collaboration features. This device allows seamless communication even in areas with limited infrastructure, making it an invaluable tool for teams in difficult conditions. In addition, the rugged dual-mode PDC690 was introduced as an essential upgrade for teams requiring uninterrupted connectivity. It seamlessly switches between broadband and narrowband networks, ensuring stable communication during critical field operations.

Hytera’s presence at AfricaCom was dominated by the introduction of its state-of-the-art Command-and-Control Centre and Unified Communications Platform. This integrated system combines devices, data, and dispatch functionalities into a single intelligent ecosystem, enabling real-time coordination and faster decision-making. Additionally, Hytera showcased its 4G and 5G solutions, based on 3GPP standards. Notable components like the BBU5801M and RRU5800 were featured, supporting a smooth evolution toward broadband and future-proof 5G readiness, all while safeguarding existing PMR investments.

Zheng explained that Hytera’s convergent approach is particularly beneficial for mobile network operators and systems integrators, enabling them to enter mission-critical markets without the need to overhaul their existing infrastructure. This, he stated, positions Hytera as a key technology partner in addressing Africa’s fast-paced digital transformation and the unique challenges posed by remote and hazardous operational environments.

Reflecting on Hytera’s progress over the years, Zheng emphasized how the company’s solutions have enabled industries to transmit multimedia data from isolated locations, maintain reliable communication during hazardous operations, and ensure that widely dispersed teams stay connected—essential when response time can directly impact safety outcomes.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Hytera hosted its annual networking dinner on November 12, bringing together partners, customers, and industry leaders from across Africa. The dinner provided an opportunity to reflect on the shared achievements, emerging insights, and plans for further strengthening mission-critical communication systems in 2026 and beyond.

Zheng also reiterated that AfricaCom remains an essential platform for collaboration, noting Hytera’s strength in integrating TETRA, DMR, and PoC technologies to enhance interoperability across smart city development, enterprise operations, and public safety environments. The company reaffirmed its commitment to driving Africa’s digital transformation through innovation, partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives.

Hytera’s Southern Africa office, located in Johannesburg, continues to serve as the foundation for its operations across the continent. The office provides technical support, training, and local capability development, playing a crucial role in strengthening Hytera’s engagement with its partners. Moving forward, the company aims to expand its influence in Africa, shaping the continent’s communications landscape, empowering communities, and building a safer, more connected future.
