Motorola Solutions Takes Major Step in Revolutionizing 911 Response with Drone Technology

In a groundbreaking move to transform emergency response, Motorola Solutions has announced its new strategic partnerships with BRINC and SkySafe. These alliances will see the integration of Drone as First Responder (DFR) and drone detection technologies into Motorola’s advanced 911 command center software, CommandCentral. The integration of these cutting-edge technologies is set to streamline emergency operations, significantly improving response times and overall public safety.

The new partnership aims to empower public safety agencies across North America, where over 60% of public safety answering points (PSAPs) already rely on Motorola’s CommandCentral software. This innovative collaboration allows emergency operators to seamlessly deploy drones, offering real-time aerial insight during crises and enabling faster, more informed decision-making.

Mahesh Saptharishi, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Motorola Solutions, emphasized the importance of quick response times in saving lives. "With over 240 million 911 calls made each year, a faster response can be the difference between life and death," Saptharishi stated. "By integrating drones into 911 systems, we can provide first responders with immediate access to crucial information, helping them arrive on scene better prepared."

One of the standout features of the new system is the ability for 911 operators to deploy drones directly via the CommandCentral platform or, more impressively, through Motorola’s APX NEXT smart radios. In many cases, drones can handle emergency situations autonomously, providing invaluable real-time data that can help first responders before they even arrive at the scene. Motorola also plans to enhance this system with its AI-powered "Assist for 911" application, which will automate incident analysis to determine when drone-based responses are needed.

Blake Resnick, Founder and CEO of BRINC, shared his enthusiasm about the partnership. "Drones often arrive at emergencies first, providing crucial aerial perspectives that help first responders prepare and act with greater accuracy. We're excited to work alongside Motorola Solutions to make drones a reliable tool for public safety agencies," Resnick said.

Alongside drone deployment, SkySafe's technology addresses the growing concern of unauthorized drones in sensitive areas. With drone-related security risks on the rise, SkySafe’s cloud-based platform offers a powerful solution for detecting and tracking drones, identifying their operators, and providing real-time data on their flight paths. This technology will now be fully integrated into Motorola’s CommandCentral, enabling emergency operators to track both authorized and potentially malicious drones within their airspace.

Grant Jordan, CEO of SkySafe, highlighted the critical role of drone detection in maintaining public safety. "Unauthorized drones, especially at major public events or near airports, can pose immediate threats," Jordan said. "Our partnership with Motorola Solutions ensures that public safety agencies will be better equipped to protect against these risks, enhancing security nationwide."

The collaboration between Motorola, BRINC, and SkySafe brings new layers of intelligence to the 911 system. Drone footage, combined with 911 call data, officer radio communications, and real-time location tracking, will allow public safety agencies to create a comprehensive picture of any emergency. Additionally, Motorola’s ecosystem includes advanced AI features that can redact sensitive information for privacy protection, ensuring a balance between safety and privacy.

With the potential for millions of consumer drones to populate U.S. airspace in the coming years, these innovations offer a timely solution to both accelerating response times and securing the airspace. This system not only promises enhanced safety but also positions public safety agencies to stay ahead of emerging threats in an increasingly complex technological landscape.

As Motorola Solutions continues to lead the way in public safety innovation, the company’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to protect communities and first responders has never been clearer.
