Motorola Solutions recently unveiled the APX® N70 XE, a state-of-the-art smart radio designed to revolutionize communication for firefighters and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel operating in high-risk environments, such as those filled with smoke, intense heat, and overwhelming noise. This innovative device is tailored to help first responders remain connected and collaborate effectively, ensuring they can respond swiftly and confidently to emergencies.
The APX N70 XE integrates mission-critical voice communications with cutting-edge smart data applications, allowing teams to access crucial incident information and track their location in real-time. “Our new generation of firefighters is tech-savvy, and they demand tools that enhance both their safety and efficiency,” shared Jim Kauffman, Director of Technology and Planning at Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District in Florida. “With the APX N70 XE, incident commanders can confidently monitor their crews’ real-time locations and stay assured that they will remain connected even when they move out of traditional radio coverage areas.”
Designed with precision, the APX N70 XE boasts the rugged durability typical of Motorola’s APX XE line of radios, yet it features a slim, ergonomic form factor that makes it easy to operate, even while wearing gloves. The radio supports Project 25 (P25) standards and includes several advanced features, such as ViQi™, an AI-powered voice assistant that enables users to adjust channels and volume via simple voice commands. Another standout feature is SmartConnect, which ensures uninterrupted communication by automatically switching to broadband when crew members venture beyond the standard radio coverage area.
The APX N70 XE also excels in its data-sharing capabilities. Utilizing LTE, the radio facilitates efficient data exchange while ensuring voice channels remain clear for critical communication. Key applications include SmartIncident, which allows dispatchers to push essential information—such as messages, images, and videos—directly to the radio; SmartLocate, which provides continuous updates on an individual’s location; SmartMessaging, enabling the sharing of multimedia content like videos; and SmartMapping, which visually displays the positions of crews near an incident.
“We are committed to expanding our smart radio offerings to provide fire and EMS teams with tools that meet their unique needs,” said John Touvannas, Vice President of Astro Devices at Motorola Solutions. “In addition to our top-of-the-line APX NEXT XN and APX NEXT XE, the new APX N70 XE delivers the same trusted voice communication and smart features in a single-band radio, but with a more compact design.”
Motorola Solutions' dedication to innovation and enhancing safety for first responders is evident in the APX N70 XE, a radio that blends reliability with cutting-edge technology, designed to support those on the front lines of emergency response.
