CHICAGO – Motorola Solutions has unveiled the APX N70 XE, a cutting-edge smart radio designed to merge essential mission-critical voice communications with real-time smart data applications. This new device is tailored specifically for first responders—firefighters and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel—who work in the most challenging environments, including smoke-filled areas, extreme heat, and deafening noise. The goal is to provide these professionals with reliable tools to enhance collaboration and ensure they can help people in urgent need, even under the toughest conditions.
“We know that today’s firefighters are tech-savvy and demand tools that not only enhance their safety but also improve operational efficiency,” explained Jim Kauffman, Director of Technology and Planning at Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District in Florida. “With the APX N70 XE, incident commanders can rest assured knowing they have up-to-date information on their team’s location, and that their crew will remain connected even if they venture out of standard radio coverage areas.”
The APX N70 XE is part of the Project 25 (P25) single-band smart radio series, carrying the well-known rugged durability of Motorola Solutions’ APX XE radio line, while also boasting a slimmer, more ergonomic design that’s optimized for use even with gloved hands. Packed with innovative features, it includes ViQi, an AI-driven voice assistant that allows users to control radio settings like channels and volume with simple voice commands. Additionally, SmartConnect technology ensures that communications continue smoothly by automatically shifting to broadband when team members move beyond radio coverage.
These technologies work together to transmit critical data via LTE, ensuring that voice channels remain clear for urgent communications. Key apps include SmartIncident, which allows dispatchers to send essential incident information—such as messages, images, videos, and audio clips—directly to the radio; SmartLocate, which continuously updates and shares the user’s location; SmartMessaging for sharing multimedia; and SmartMapping, which shows the real-time locations of teams in proximity to an ongoing incident.
“We are committed to expanding our lineup of smart radios to meet the evolving needs of firefighters and EMS personnel,” said John Touvannas, Vice President of Astro Devices at Motorola Solutions. “With our premium all-band radios, the APX NEXT XN and APX NEXT XE, and now the APX N70 XE, we provide the same trusted communication capabilities, combined with smart applications, all within a single-band radio that’s slimmer and easier to carry.”
