Lancashire Constabulary is revolutionizing the way its officers work in local communities, with more than 3,500 front-line staff spending extra time on the streets, thanks to cutting-edge technology. By extending its contract for the digital policing app Pronto until 2029, the force has empowered officers to access records and file reports from virtually anywhere, eliminating the need for traditional police notebooks.

This technological leap doesn’t stop there. Lancashire Constabulary has also invested in 1,750 new body cameras, enhancing their ability to collect evidence. With solutions from Motorola Solutions, officers now have critical information at their fingertips, enabling faster, more effective policing and, most importantly, providing them more time to engage directly with the public.

Lancashire was among the first police forces globally to adopt Pronto, and recent feedback from officers underscores its importance. A survey revealed that the vast majority of the force find Pronto to be “highly valuable” and “easy to use.” The app is designed to streamline everyday tasks, allowing officers to record and access information on the go, even using voice commands to safely manage reports from their patrol cars without ever taking their eyes off the road.

“We believe in innovation as the key to better serving our communities. By investing in technologies like Pronto and body cameras, we’re giving our officers the tools to work smarter, safer, and more effectively,” said Chris Hardy, Chief Superintendent at Lancashire Constabulary. Hardy, known for his proactive approach, emphasized the value of Pronto in maintaining data integrity, noting it helps reduce operational issues like duplicate records.

The Chief Superintendent’s commitment to modernizing policing is clear. “We’re heading toward a future where all our data is collected through Pronto, further enhancing our policing efficiency and helping make our communities safer,” Hardy added.

In addition to Pronto, the use of body cameras is proving invaluable. Many front-line officers credit the devices with capturing stronger evidence and improving their safety on the job. The Constabulary is now upgrading its Motorola Solutions VB400 body cameras to the more advanced V500 models, which provide live-streaming capabilities to the control room, giving real-time insight into incidents as they unfold. Furthermore, all police vehicles are being equipped with the Motorola Solutions M500 in-car video system, ensuring comprehensive coverage and enhancing situational awareness.

Fergus Mayne, UK and Ireland Country Manager at Motorola Solutions, praised the transformation within Lancashire Constabulary. “Real-time video is revolutionizing how police forces gather data, respond to incidents, and create accurate, objective records. Lancashire’s digital evolution is setting a new benchmark for law enforcement agencies across the nation,” said Mayne.

Both the V500 body cameras and M500 in-car systems integrate smoothly with Pronto, supported by VideoManager—the robust evidence management software by Motorola Solutions that guarantees secure storage, handling, and sharing of crucial evidence.

The Constabulary’s ongoing investments extend beyond just digital apps and body cameras. Their technology ecosystem also includes Airwave, a trusted solution for secure, mission-critical voice communications, ensuring that officers are connected and responsive in even the most urgent situations. This integration of technologies aims to shorten response times, improve decision-making processes, and most importantly, enhance the safety and effectiveness of officers in the field.

By leveraging these innovative solutions, Lancashire Constabulary is not just upgrading its technology but is setting the standard for modern policing, ensuring that officers have the tools they need to protect and serve their communities more efficiently and effectively than ever before.
